The group of companies Sando and the consultant Grant Thornton have started the Rebecca research project, co-funded by Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) and with the collaboration of the Malaga Universitywith the aim of creating an intelligent system for the automatic application of the BIM methodology in construction. The tools based on BIM technology are replacing the programs CAD Worldwide.
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a collaborative methodology for the management of building and civil works projects through a 3D digital model. BIM forms a large database to manage the elements of an infrastructure throughout its entire life cycle.
He rebecca project focuses on the design of a system of rules and algorithms of artificial intelligence that work on the database of BIM to improve the control and monitoring of construction projects.
The implementation of this intelligent system requires the study and evaluation of the internal procedures of a company to adapt them to the technical requirements of BIM. In a second phase, the processes are modeled so that the system can extract the information automatically.
To the data that is obtained already parameterized thanks to BIMhe rebecca project proposes to apply advanced deep learning computing methods (neural networks) to extract knowledge patterns. A pattern, for example, can be how long certain jobs tend to be delayed before a material specification change or what is the expected cost increase due to such a change.
Constant Learning
He rebecca project incorporates artificial intelligence into the system, seeking to achieve a user experience that allows the full potential of technology to be extracted. The objective is to design an expert system that constantly learns and provides the person responsible for each project with suggestions that, based on existing knowledge in Sandoallows you to make the best decisions to achieve better built projects, in more specific terms and with more adjusted costs.
The head of the sector Building and Civil Works of CTA, Carlos Garciaaffirms that “Rebecca is an ambitious digital transformation project that will mean a before and after for Sando”. In his opinion, “the application of technology BIM It will make construction processes more efficient, precise and accurate”.
This research will make it easier for Sando offer unique services in BIM that increase the quality of projects and can be quickly adapted to customer requirements, increasing efficiency and constituting a competitive advantage by reducing execution times and operating costs.
With the Rebecca project, Grant Thornton will carry out one of the first global applications of artificial intelligence in a real context of work, which will serve to strengthen the technological environment of its services BIM and Project Management.
Next to Sando and Grant Thornton he rebecca project has the collaboration of Neurotechnology research group of the University of Malaga and the financing of the Technological Corporation of Andalusia.
