The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has donated a premoto3 prototype to the motorcycling association Leal Racing Club. It is a 250 cc and 4-stroke motorcycle designed and manufactured in 2013/14 for the MotoStudent competition, it will be used to train its riders and compete in the Spanish Speed Championship next year.
This agreement will mean a real test bench to learn about the evolution, development and innovation that the MotoUPCT team has introduced in it. In addition, it will allow the members of the MotoUPCT team, teaching and research staff, administration and services and collaborators to get closer to professional motorcycling teams and collaborate with them in possible studies and research works.
Apart from that, it is contemplated that UPCT students can carry out their professional practices in the Leal Racing Club team and that the bases are laid to create a university spin-off between students and teachers involved in research and development actions.
The manager of the MotoUPCT team, Daniel Albaladejo, explained that the assignment is, in principle, for one year, but with the possibility of extending it over time. “They are going to use it in the Spanish championship and it will give us time to have another motorcycle ready by the end of the agreement, so we will make the change so that they can also test the new one”, he pointed out.
For his part, the manager of the Leal Racing Club team, Antonio Leal, has pointed out that they will have to make some modifications. “They use some elements that are standard, so we are going to adapt them, but we hope that with this team we will be among the top fifteen in the championship.”
Leal has explained that his pilot school is dedicated to teaching children from the age of 2 in the training method followed by Jorge Lorenzo. “This collaboration is very interesting to continue training our students in the big circuits”, he pointed out.
Institutions and companies such as the IES Politécnico de Cartagena, SAIT, ITALKIT, Shiro Helmets, Rectificadora Levante, Tenoescape Motor Shop, GRO, TURBOKIT, Albacolor, MULTYMAQ, DANDY Moto, Leal Racing, Team Ruiz Rojo, Radiador Center, WD40, Mata Racing, AVL Boost have already supported the MotoUPCT team to carry out this project.
